I just hopped on and off the bus and headed to Canberra recently. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting I will like it. However, there are something I wanted to share.
1. Greyhound Australia
It costs just 56-87 AUD from Melbourne to Canberra, whatever you want to travel at night or daytime. It takes 8 hours to travel. Compared to flight, bus is more flexible and cheaper.
2. The cupping room
Definitely recommend! The coffee and french toast are so fantastics. They are always busy, but the staffs are friendly.
Opening hour: Mon – Fri 07:00-16:00 ; Sat – Sun and public holiday 08:00 – 15:00
Address: 1/1-13 University Ave, Canberra ACT 2601
3. Australian War Memorial
Kind of the famous museum when you visit Canberra. It exhibits how the Australian soldiers help defend the enemies in the world war one and world war two. It’s free for entrance. We lived because they sacrificed their lives. They are not only those of specific mother’s sons, but also are every sons of this countries. War is crucial. No matter they killed or were killed. What a sad place.
Opening hour: 10:00 – 17:00
Address: Treloar Crescent (top of Anzac Parade), Campbell ACT 2612
4. Mount Ainslie Lookout
Great hot spot to see the city. Australia War Memorial, Old Parliament House and Parliament are at the same line.
Address: Mount Ainslie Drive, Ainslie ACT 2602
5. National Gallery of Australia
It brings up so many contemporary art and free for entrance. That’s why I really recommend. Not just paints or photography, but also action performance, like Mike Parr. They focus the Australian, aboriginal and international artists, which it provides more visions for visitors. Enjoy the time I spent here.
Opening hour: 10:00 – 17:00
Address: Parkes Place, Parkes ACT 2600
6. Parliament of Australia
When I went there, it’s been closed, so I didn’t attend the tour. However, it’s still one of hot spots for taking photos.
7. Old Parliament House
I just passed by, but I saw the protection is in front of the old parliament house, which called Aboriginal Tent Embassy. It’s been a long time. For respect, I didn’t take any photos there. Quite interesting!
8. Two Sisters Lao Thai Cuisine
Love their curry and desserts. Staffs are quite friendly and not expensive.
Address: 111 London Circuit, Canberra City, Canberra, ACT.
9. Canberra City YHA
Considering its location and facilities, the price is quite fair. It would be perfect if wifi is free in the room. Clean and big for 12 mixed dorm room.
The city is full of public arts and wonderful museums. It’s so shame that I didn’t have enough time to visit Lake Burley Griffin, National Portrait Gallery and Questacon. For me, Canberra is so surprised me because it’s not so noisy and high quality museums. Maybe it’s not like other’s city which develops tourisms, but it’s pretty good for people who seek for peace and laid back.
